Need Focus? Keep Your Eye On Your Weenies

I attended a class this weekend called Imagineering. The instructor was incredible. The content compelling and well, the outcome for me was serious inspiration which is what prompted me to write this blog post.

Let me ask you a question. What is your life's vision? No, not mission. Not purpose - vision.

I hope this makes the difference between the three simple.

Purpose guides you.

Mission drives you.

Vision is what you aspire to.

What is the most important one? None of them. Execution is what matters.

I heard somebody said, “Sight has to do with what we can see, but vision has to do with what we can be.” The reason some people are stuck at the same level is because their vision is limited. They don’t see themselves growing, increasing, being promoted or getting healthier. All they see is more of the same. More lack. More struggle. More defeat. They’re producing what they’re seeing.

Have you ever walked through a corn maze? The further in you journey, the harder it becomes to see the exit and all you see is more and more and more corn. At Walt Disney World, they have what Walt referred to as weenies. Weenies are visual magnets that keeps you moving towards a bigger attraction. Cinderella's castle. Spaceship Earth. The Tree of Life. They guide guests in a certain direction throughout the park. It reminds me of the philosophy of "Focus on your goal. Don't look in any direction but ahead."

In order to execute your vision, you need to keep your eye's on your weenies. Have you created your visual magnets? Those moments you dream of after you graduate? That promotion you are working for? That feeling you will have when you've created work/life balance? That dream home?

Being able to move in the direction of your visual magnets - your life's bigger attractions - strengthens the likelihood of you realizing your dreams and keeps you from losing sight of the exit. Inevitably in life, we lose our way and progress towards our goals stops. It's imperative to lead yourself out of the confusion and see the bigger attraction up ahead all while the path may be uncertain.

See yourself rising higher.

See yourself becoming stronger, healthier and wiser.

See yourself living in the home.

See yourself less stressed.

Starve your distractions, feed your focus. Execute your vision and experience your life changing. And once you arrive to the attraction - get ready to create more weenies.
